Colin Nichol - Guitar and vocals |
By day working hard to maintain the last remaining Iron Ore mine in the country and pretty much the rest of the time driving the band and it’s hard working and soulful ethos. A tireless and committed musician, Colin has helped many aspiring musicians on their chosen path with tutoring and real hands on experience |
Colin’s musical history and influences are as wide as they are distinguished. From early beginnings many (40 to be exact, ahem...) years ago playing with ‘Velvet Patience’ to playing full time on the road with experiences of hundreds of live performances at gigs, festivals, charity performances and studio work. Colin cites his musical influences as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Steve Marriott, Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones among others. His preferred style is soulful electric blues with a leaning towards a strong rhythm and blues feel. Think ‘SRV meets Hendrix’ - and you wont be too far away to picture his style and virtuosity |
Steve Harper - Bass Guitar |
A lifelong west-cumbrian and newcomer to the live music scene, Steve (affectionately known as ‘Big’ Steve) has spent many years as a senior manager with a national corporation semi- retiring in 2008 to spend time with his family and importantly, his music. Steve now manages the band spending a lot of his time working on the band’s web pages in his home studio where the band record. |
After many years as an aspiring ‘bedroom’ player of guitars, he started taking his music seriously under the guidance of the renowned all round virtuoso Jan Beck. Steve then turned to the bass guitar under the guidance of Colin to contribute to MT arms and get into the live music scene after years of aspiring to do so - inspired by the polished and professional sets performed by some great locally based musicians and also the many nationally renowned bands he has had the pleasure of seeing perform live. Steve also plays bass with a great rock band based in West Cumbria called TomKat |
Steve’s main influences go back to bands like Queen, Led Zeppelin, Eagles, Black Sabbath, Stranglers and more contemporary groups like Kings of Leon, Muse, Elbow, Radiohead and a more recent discovery are the delights of ‘MGMT’. Steve says ‘if forced to choose a guitar hero—it has to be Joe Walsh, then again there’s Brian May and what about Jimmy Page - oh and Hendrix, EC, SRV et al—oh I give up—you get the idea!’ |
John Waters - Drums |
John is what is known with affection as the timekeeper of the band with some really solid backlines and subtle flourishes throughout the bands set. John is currently employed by BNFL full time but he manages to fit in time for the band and it’s commitments. John has been playing drums for more years than he cares to remember and he still loves to pop out to his garage to thrash out a few numbers on his kit—he says he finds it therapeutic! |
John has quite a wide range of influences with drumming heroes like Baker and Powell and a rock-based music background like the Stones, Led Zep & Sabbath with smatterings of blues influenced players like SRV, Hendrix, Cream and John Mayall’s bluesbreakers |
